Advancing Women in Philanthropy: The Leacross Foundation Supports Carleton University Initiative
The Leacross Foundation is dedicated to creating opportunities for women and children in Canada, with a focus on granting through a gender lens in areas such as education. We recognize the vital role women play in shaping society, and we are proud to support initiatives that empower them in various sectors. In this spirit, we are pleased to highlight our support for the Canadian Women in Philanthropy Initiative at Carleton University’s School of Public Policy and Administration.
The Canadian Women in Philanthropy Initiative – Established May 2025
This inaugural program at Carleton University aims to build on this growing influence and advance opportunities for women in philanthropy, an area where they have historically been underrepresented.
The initiative, with postdoctoral researcher Lisa Trefzger Clarke helping to launch and build it, will:
- Produce and share research on women in philanthropy that is directly useful to the work of women in philanthropy and the organizations they work with.
- Facilitate mutual learning among women changemakers of different generations and communities.
- Increase understanding of how different and diverse voices are shaping philanthropy in ways that can lead to systemic change.

A Commitment to Systemic Change
The Leacross Foundation’s support for this initiative is made possible through the vision and dedication of Roslyn Bern, a long-time educator and philanthropist. As President of the Leacross Foundation, Roslyn has consistently championed projects that advance women in STEM fields, international development, and leadership positions across the private and nonprofit sectors.
Roslyn and the Leacross Foundation believe that this initiative will contribute to lasting change by amplifying the voices of women in philanthropy and providing them with the tools and knowledge to make an even greater impact.
