A Year of Community Engagement and Support
Chelsea Library Meet the Authors Week
March 2025
We were delighted to participate in the Chelsea Library’s Meet the Authors Week, which featured three talented authors:
- Roxanne Turcotte: An engaging author and storyteller who captivated young audiences. She had a week-long schedule with students and an evening pyjama party attended by over 100 parents and children. Her books, written in French and translated to English, feature exciting adventures in Quebec.
- Andrew Larsen: A humorist author whose inspiring stories resonated with children. His storytelling was so well-received that some children created their own books for him. He also entertained over 90 parents and children at a pyjama party.
- Michael Stewart: An author who explored the impact of the internet through his stories. He led workshops for grades 5 and 6, focusing on the poetry and prose of a teenage girl’s experiences with cell phones.
We extend our gratitude to the staff and volunteers at the Chelsea Library, Amelie and Samuel, for organizing this wonderful event.
Telling Tales Festival
September 2024
The Leacross Foundation supported and attended the 16th annual Telling Tales Festival at the Hamilton’s Royal Botanical Gardens.
This festival, held since 2008, showcases over 50 of Canada’s leading children’s authors, illustrators, and storytellers in an outdoor setting, providing opportunities to meet these literary figures and discover new works.
University of Ottawa – Design Day
February 2025
It was an honour for Roslyn Bern of the Leacross Foundation to serve as a judge at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Engineering Design Day. Students presented innovative prototypes designed to address accessibility issues, including wheelchair cup holders, paddleboard and balance devices, and wheelchair-accessible work tables.
OrKidstra Concert Series
May-June 2024
The Leacross Foundation is proud to continue supporting OrKidstra’s educational programs, which inspire young musicians. Over 700 children have gained musical knowledge and skills through playing instruments.
You can find more information in their impact report here.
We had the pleasure of attending Year-end concerts at the Heron Gate and Vanier Hub to celebrate the talents of our amazing students and experience the joy of music in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
Dalhousie Women in Tech Summit
May 2024
The Leacross Foundation participated in the Dalhousie Women in Tech Summit, an inspirational event hosted by Yara Ahmed at Dalhousie University. High school students participated in a scavenger hunt at the Goldberg building, learning about computer science, career paths, and the challenges and rewards of developing tech skills.

Partners for Youth & Sport 3
Sport3 had its first annual facilitators Knowledge Exchange in Toronto, and it was a great success. Facilitators and teachers from New Brunswick, PEI, Alberta and Ontario had the opportunity to discuss Sport3 successes, opportunities, the program delivery methods, and worked together around creative solutions for individual challenges.
Sport3 is working to build better conversations using physical activity. Teachers are finding it to be an excellent tool for student/teacher wellbeing, and being active outside while covering important curriculum topics.

A Commitment to Community Enrichment
Through our involvement in these diverse events, the Leacross Foundation strives to support children and education, arts and culture, and community, health and development. We believe in the importance of fostering creativity, providing opportunities for learning, and celebrating the achievements of individuals and organizations.
