The Leacross Foundation believes that education opens doors for all members of society – for this reason the Leacross Foundation has allied with libraries to enhance the learning experience for women and children. We have supported the following projects:
- Chelsea Lwakefield libary logo FINALibrary’s Meet the Authors program, where parents and kids are invited to meet children’s book authors and assisted with purchasing reference books, audio books for Seniors, and current literature. 2015 marks the seventh anniversary of the library’s partnership with the Leacross foundation. Over the last five years, the library’s collection has risen from slightly fewer than 10,000 documents to more than 30,000, enabling the library to better satisfy community demand.
- Wakefield Library and Wakefield School in conjunction with Municipality of Lapêche, had their first Meet the Authors event in March 2015.
- Child Haven Nepal’s library project where we purchased books, tables, shelving, a computer and hired a librarian.
- Ottawa Kiwanis Read-a-thon program in elementary schools that motivated children to set reading goals, and local authors were invited to read to the youth.
